It offers a wide range of new systems from a highly redundant PM propeller motor to electrically actuated rudders and masts. The core qualities of the well-known HDW Class 209, such as high combat strength and a compact design with low signatures levels, are well preserved together with the operation and manning concepts. Decisive steps into the future have been taken with the automation of crucial systems and a high priority of safety aspects. A special focus is put on unpretentious maintainability and longevity of the submarines with crucial components Made in Germany.
Capabilities
HDW Class 209NG submarines come with state-of-the-art platform systems. High range and speed in combination with a very low indiscretion rate are achieved with new, high-power diesel generator sets and low energy consumption. The new propulsion system allows the integration of lead-acid or lithium-ion batteries without design changes resulting in a unique feature of the submarine – a possible change of battery type, even during a refit. The compact and robust design is made for high availability due to optimized complexity and controllable maintainability. The submarine, with its well-balanced ship handling, offers long endurance surfaced and submerged.
Combat effectiveness stands at the core of the 209NG’s power. The state-of-the-art combat system provides an instant situation awareness for the optimal use of the variety of effectors, from sensor to shooter completely integrated in ORCCA®. The submarine offers a high weapon payload in combination with a wide range of sensors – adaptable by the customer with the incorporation of predefined optional systems. For fulfilling the tasks in the inter-connected battlefield of today, the full range of submarine communication and intelligence gathering is available through high-performance under water and above water systems.
